Expert course in 3D printing and bioprinting for the health sector allows us to discover the possibilities of 3D application and bioprinting in the world of healthcare, from the point of increasing the patient’s safety and in an integrated way with personalised medical healthcare strategies.

 

To learn about the main experiences and working groups in the sector and study some of them to understand the different stages, phases and professionals which are involved.

 

To learn about the different types of technologies and materials which are used as well as the regulations concerning their application and the existing legal framework for their use in the health sector.

 

To experiment starting with small projects that respond to real or simulated clinical cases, either from the participant’s experience or others, in order to model the treatment of the image that allows the development of 3D printing and subsequent clinical evaluation.

Length: 150 hours (50 hours face-to-face with a practical orientation, 50 hours online for researching different subjects, taking part in videoconferences and different debates, and 50 hours spent on personal application projects).

Qualification of University Expert in 3D PRINTING AND BIOPRINTING FOR THE HEALTH SECTOR
This qualification of Expert is part of the Master’s Degree in 3D PRINTING and BIOPRINTING that will be organised by the Althaia Foundation, Avinent, and the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia and will be given during the 2019-2020 academic year.

• Existing regulations applicable to hospitals.
• Areas of application of additive manufacturing: models, guides, implantable medical devices, tools and others.
• Agents involved in 3D printing

2. BIOPRINTING
• What is bioprinting and what applications does it have in medicine and health?
• State of bioprinting worldwide and in Catalonia.
• Types of biomaterials, biocompatibility requirements.
• Existing regulations applicable to hospitals.
• Medical application of biomodels. Design and manufacture of biomodels.
• Bioprinting and biomechanics.
• Surgical planning using biomodels and instruments manufactured using 3D techniques.

3. FROM THE IMAGE TO HEALTHCARE APPLICATIONS
• The importance of the medical image.
• Acquisition of the medical image. Techniques and parameters.
• Shipping, design, printing and how to communicate with healthcare professionals.
• Format, content, processing and storage of the image.
• Design of prototypes, models, guides, implantable medical devices, instruments and others with 3D printing and other associated technologies (pressed, etc.).
• 3D printing techniques for health applications.
• Segmentation of the medical image with different pathologies.
• Legal limitations in medical applications.
• Types of materials.
• Practical cases.

4. MANUFACTURE OF A MODEL, GUIDE, IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICE, INSTRUMENT OR PROTOTYPE
• Practical application. Manufacture, integration and configuration based on the specific cases of the participants themselves: injuries, reconstructions, oncological cases, surgical interventions, malformations, etc.
