Programme Description
Cancer is a disease with increasing prevalence. Despite higher cure rates, it remains a condition with a strong psychological impact on patients and their families. Historically, the lack of resources to alleviate adverse symptoms and the fact that many patients did not survive shaped society’s perception of cancer. Today, despite medical advances, the process of diagnosis, treatment, and adaptation to the disease generates significant psychological challenges.
Psycho-oncology is the branch of psychology that studies and supports cancer patients and their families. Each medical advancement brings new emotional and psychological challenges that require specialised intervention. For this reason, psychologists wishing to work in this field must understand the specificities of the disease and its psychological and social effects.
This postgraduate programme provides the necessary training for professionals interested in developing their careers in healthcare centres, patient associations, and social and health care environments.
