Frequently Asked Questions – Postgraduate Program in Psycho-oncology

What is the Postgraduate Program in Psycho-oncology at UManresa?

This is a specialized training program designed to prepare health professionals to provide emotional support to people with cancer and their families throughout the illness process. The program integrates knowledge from psychology, oncology, and communication, offering tools to provide emotional support, improve therapeutic communication, and understand the psychosocial needs of patients and their environment. This training does not qualify participants to perform clinical functions nor does it replace any regulated health degree; it focuses solely on developing skills in emotional support, understanding, and psychosocial intervention in the oncology field.

Who is this postgraduate program intended for?

It is intended for psychologists.

What is the format of the postgraduate program? Is it in-person or online?

The program is 100% online, with the possibility of completing an optional clinical practice in hospitals that have agreements with the university, subject to prior approval from the academic management.

When does the program start and how long does it last?

The training lasts 9 months and usually begins in the autumn. Check the updated calendar on the website to confirm the dates.

What content is covered in the program?

The program includes topics such as the psychosocial aspects of oncological disease throughout the entire process and across different profiles (life cycle, developmental stage, gender, communication in difficult situations, interdisciplinary work, and emotional support for oncology patients and their families).

Are internships mandatory? How long do they last?

No, internships are not mandatory. They are a voluntary option for those who wish to reinforce their knowledge before starting. The maximum duration is one week and is always adapted to the student’s availability. Even so, practical cases and intervention situations are systematically covered during the program. Therefore, not completing the optional internship does not prevent acquiring intervention competencies: they are part of the training pathway.

What qualification will I obtain upon completion?

You will obtain an official qualification issued by the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), recognized in academic and professional fields.

What is the price of the program and are there financing options?

The current price can be checked on the website. UManresa offers installment payment options and access to discounts or financial aid in some cases.

How do I complete the pre-enrollment?

Pre-enrollment is completed online via the form available on the program’s webpage. Once submitted, you will receive detailed information about the next steps.
