Programme description
The Postgraduate Programme in Art and Culture in Mental Health and Addictions is a university-level training programme that offers an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to promoting emotional well-being, mental health and social inclusion through art and culture. The programme is framed within new paradigms of mental health care, aligned with the recovery model, person-centred care, human rights and social prescribing strategies promoted by international organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO).
In recent decades, art and culture have become consolidated as health assets, with growing evidence of their positive impact on improving psychological well-being, reducing stigma, strengthening social bonds and fostering community participation. This postgraduate programme responds to the need to provide professionals with knowledge, skills and methodologies to integrate artistic and cultural practices into the field of mental health and addictions, from therapeutic, community, educational and social perspectives.
The programme is promoted by UVic-UCC through the Chair of Mental Health of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia / Althaia Foundation and the Research Group on Innovation in Mental Health and Social Well-being (ISaMBeS), in collaboration with leading local organisations such as Osonament and the Althaia Foundation University Healthcare Network of Manresa, which have a well-established track record in community care, social innovation and the application of art in recovery processes.
