Programme Description
Cancer is a disease with an increasing prevalence. Despite the improvement in cure rates, it continues to have a strong psychological impact on patients and their families. Historically, the lack of resources to alleviate adverse symptoms and the high mortality rate shaped the social perception of cancer. Today, despite medical advances, the process of diagnosis, treatment and adaptation to the disease continues to pose significant psychological challenges.
Psycho-oncology is the branch of psychology that studies and provides support to both cancer patients and their relatives. Each medical advance brings new emotional and psychological challenges that require specialised intervention. For this reason, psychology professionals who wish to work in this field must understand the specific characteristics of the disease and its psychological and social effects.
This postgraduate programme provides the necessary training for professionals interested in developing their careers in healthcare centres, patient associations and socio-healthcare settings.
