Programme Description
The University Expert in Nutrition and Mental Health is a specialised programme aimed at professionals in the health, social and educational fields who work in mental health care. The programme is based on a biopsychosocial and community-oriented view of mental health, framed within new care paradigms and the integration of new professional roles, aligned with the recovery model, comprehensive care, person-centred approaches and grounded in human rights.
The main objective is to equip professionals with knowledge, tools and skills to integrate dietary and nutritional interventions into mental health care. The programme addresses the relationship between nutrition, mental health and well-being, based on scientific evidence and best practices.
The training combines theoretical foundations with a strong practical focus, including case studies, simulations, interdisciplinary work and visits to local resources.
The programme is promoted by the Chair of Mental Health of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia, in collaboration with Osonament and the Althaia Foundation. It includes the participation of teaching staff from the fields of mental health and dietetics-nutrition from different organisations in the region, and is designed to foster innovative, ethical and person-centred professional practice.
