Séquia Award 2026

Today, as in the 14th century, attitude makes the difference

Séquia Award Guidelines

The SÉQUIA AWARD, dedicated to the heirs of the spirit of the people of Manresa in the 14th century, aims to recognise individuals and institutions linked in some way to the city who stand out for their committed attitude to collective well-being and for their ability to overcome adversity. In short, it seeks to honour those who live by and have embraced the spirit that made the construction of the Séquia possible.

Although it is not an essential requirement, special consideration will be given to nominations that help highlight the work and attitudes of individuals or institutions that act anonymously and/or are little known.

The award, organised by the Fundació Universitària del Bages and the Fundació Aigües de Manresa – Junta de la Séquia, aims to help make visible initiatives that contribute to making Manresa and its area of influence a better place to live.

The award has two categories:

  • SÉQUIA AWARD for individuals
  • SÉQUIA AWARD for institutions, organisations, companies, or groups

Submission of nominations

Nominations must be submitted to the Fundació Universitària del Bages by 31 December 2025.

Nominations for the award may be submitted through different channels:

On the proposal of an individual person

On the proposal of an entity, institution, company, or collective from the city

On the proposal of the members of the award jury.

Each person, entity, institution, company, or collective may submit as many nominations as they wish in each annual call.

Entities, institutions, companies, or collectives may submit self-nominations.

Nominations must include the following information:

  • About the entity, institution, company, or collective submitting the nomination: Name, postal address, email address, telephone number, and main activity.
  • About the proposed candidate: Full name of the person / institution–company–collective. Statement of reasons why they are considered deserving of the recognition.

The jury will assess the different nominations and will select one for each category.

The award may not be declared void.

The award recipients may be individuals, companies, institutions, or collectives that reside in Manresa or carry out their main activity there.

The award must highlight the work of the recipient for the benefit of the community and emphasise attitudes closely linked to the legacy of the people of Manresa in the 14th century that made the construction of the Séquia possible, such as:

  • Creativity, ingenuity, proactivity, a solution-oriented approach, and curiosity.
  • The ability to reach agreements through dialogue and negotiation, teamwork, a sense of community, and empathy.
  • Determination, perseverance, courage in defending the common good, broad horizons when setting personal and collective goals, consistency, and passion.
  • Commitment to the community, responsibility, and a forward-looking vision.

Although it is not an essential requirement, special consideration will be given to nominations that help highlight the work and attitudes of individuals or institutions that act anonymously and/or are little known.

The jury will be made up of:

  • A representative of the Fundació Universitària del Bages, who will act as secretary.
  • A representative of the Manresa City Council.
  • A representative of the Parc de la Séquia.
  • A representative of the Associació de la Misteriosa Llum.

The tribute to the award-winning individuals and/or institutions includes the following distinctions:

  • Public recognition as part of an event included in the Festa de la Llum celebrations. It will be held at the Old Reservoirs building (home of the Manresa Museum of Technology), one of the points where the Séquia reaches the city.
  • Signing of the Book of Honour of the people of Manresa who are heirs to the spirit of the Séquia.
  • Presentation of a sculpture created by the artist Ramon Oms.
