The why and what for of the programme
Values are the DNA of organisations. They are the guide that must accompany the conduct and behaviour of all professionals to make this possible. For this reason, it is essential to highlight them and give them a voice, to become more aware of them, to connect them more closely with our daily practice and to allow them to naturally guide new ways of working that are safer, more efficient and of greater value to society.
Leading with values in the educational field means accompanying and facilitating collaborative work towards a shared purpose.
For this reason, UManresa (Fundació Universitària del Bages) has promoted the creation of the Chair of Leadership in Values at the Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya, with the aim of creating the conditions that enable individuals, teams and organisations to use leadership to promote positive change in their environment. It is led by Pep Guardiola and Manel Estiarte and is supported by a large number of leading figures from the academic, social and economic spheres.
Along these lines, last academic year a University Expert Diploma in Leadership in Values in Health and Social Organisations was successfully designed and delivered. As a result of our university’s commitment to education, this University Expert Diploma in Leadership in Values in the educational field is now offered to ensure the training of educational leaders who are well prepared professionally and, above all, equipped with a strong ethical foundation in values that guarantees a values-based, holistic education with emotional well-being for the entire educational community.
The Chair has developed its conceptual framework based on the professional and personal trajectories of its two directors. Thus, on a metaphorical playing field, twelve pairs of activators (values) are connected to four dimensions (person, team, organisation and environment) and together become the elements that shape a proprietary theoretical model explaining and defining the different styles of values-based leadership.
Programme objectives
- Analyse current global and social challenges (geopolitical, migratory, technological and climate-related) in order to define the role and leadership that schools must assume today.
- Promote transformative pedagogical leadership that supports teachers, fosters evidence-based educational innovation and empowers teaching teams with autonomy and shared responsibility.
- Conceive the school as an open ecosystem, connected to the community and other social stakeholders, fostering networks of collaboration and a shared ethical purpose of social transformation.
- Place values and ethics at the heart of educational leadership, developing ethical role models capable of generating environments based on care, justice, authenticity and a sense of community.
- Promote the care and well-being of the entire educational community through empathetic communication, active listening and respect as foundations for coexistence and collective progress.
- Deploy strategies for management and human development, including strategic planning, evaluation and accountability, talent identification and development, and the construction of distributed and sustainable leadership.
